Job Summary for Legal/Admin Assistant (Corporate)

Directorate: Law and Property, Legal & Democratic Services 
Salary: £15,153 - £18,430 (Scale 03/04) 
Job Summary: (37 hours weekly, initially for 6 months with strong prospects of permanency for the right candidate) - Required to provide a support service to Solicitors and Legal Executives, but in particular to those of the Corporate Litigation Team. Your duties will include preparatory work for various legal processes and allocation and completion of some work within the Administration Section. You will have successfully completed the Legal Practice Course or Bar Finals and have relevant experience in a legal environment, both of which are essential criteria.

Shortlisting and Interviews will take place following the Christmas break.

Job Description for Legal/Admin Assistant (Corporate)

Reports to: Administration Manager 
Responsible for: The Legal/Admin Assistant is responsible to the Administration Manager for assisting in the provision of a support service to the Solicitors and Legal Executives within the Legal and Democratic Division. 
Main Purpose: The Legal/Admin Assistant is responsible to the Administration Manager for assisting in the provision of a support service to the Solicitors and Legal Executives within the Legal and Democratic Division. 
Main Activities: To support the Corporate Litigation Team part-time under the direction of the Corporate Litigation Section Head to include the following duties:-

1. To prepare Briefs for Counsel.

2. To sit behind Counsel and take notes of the proceedings.

3. General correspondence.

4. Attending meetings as required.

5. To prepare lists and bundles of documents for Tribunals/Court/Planning Inquiries.

6. To attend Education Appeals as required.

To provide part-time support to and cover for the Administration Manager in her absence to include the following duties:

1. To allocate work to Admin Support Assistants.

2. General office tasks.

3. To process Road Traffic Orders and Tree Preservation Orders.

4. To provide cover for all matters associated with the preparation and issue of proceedings in relation to car park prosecutions.

5. To provide cover for housing administration.

6. Such other duties as may, from time to time, be assigned to the post holder, having regard to the grade and scale of the post and the experience and qualifications of the post holder.

The postholder will perform duties in discharge of the above responsibilities to the highest professional standards. In particular he/she will:

Experience: Relevant experience in a legal office 
Qualifications or Training: LPC/Bar Finals 
Practical Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft packages
General knowledge of ICT systems
Good communication skills
Well organised and able to prioritise to deal with mixed workload
Supervisory skills 
Personal Qualities & Attributes: Methodical and able to relate well with a variety of people
Able to work without direct supervision
