Job Summary

*There is an Opportunity for a Qualified Rehabilitation Worker for Visually Impaired people to complement our excellent Vision Support Service Team.
If you have a high degree of self-motivation, commitment to working with visually impaired and deafblind people, and will be able to offer a full range of assessment, advice and rehabilitation services, including low vision training we would love to hear from you.

Applicants must have a Certificate or Diploma In Rehabilitation Studies (Visual Impairment) or equivalent

Car driver or the ability to make efficient and effective travel arrangements is essential.

Job Description for Senior/Basic Grade Rehabilitation Worker (Visual Impairment)

Reports to: Assistant Team Manager / Team Manager 
Responsible for: Please see below  
Main Purpose: Senior Grade

To provide rehabilitation services to people with a Visual Impairment or Dual Sensory Impairment and their carers.

To provide a co-ordinated approach to the assessment of needs and to develop individual rehabilitation programmes.

To undertake, monitor and evaluate the assessment of needs and to develop individual rehabilitation programmes.

To provide advice, support and counselling for service users and carers, who require such assistance.

To contribute to the development of the service through training and supervision of others.

To provide a sensitive, flexible and appropriate response to individual service users and their carers.


Basic Grade

To provide rehabilitation services to people with a visual impairment and their carers.

To provide a co-ordinated approach to the assessment of needs and to develop individual rehabilitation programmes.

To undertake, monitor and evaluate the assessment of needs and to develop individual rehabilitation programmes.

To provide advice, support and counselling for service users and carers, who require such assistance.

To contribute to the development of the service through training and informal supervision of others.

To provide a sensitive, flexible and appropriate response to individual service users and their carers.
 
Main Activities: Senior Grade

To provide advice on registration procedures to people with a visual impairment and their carers.

To undertake a specialist assessment of people with a visual impairment and provide appropriate training including low vision aids as agreed with the service user and carer.

To assist the Assistant Team Manager in the improvement and expansion of the rehabilitation services for people with a Visual Impairment or Dual Sensory Impairment.

To supervise professional students on placement within Vision Support Services.

To deputise for the Assistant Team Manager as required.

To undertake assessment of need of those service users who require a complex assessment, including visually impaired people with dual sensory or multiple disabilities, co-ordinating those assessments where multi-disciplinary input is required in accordance with Directorate Protocols.

To maintain effective working relationships with internal and external service providers and to convene and attend multi-disciplinary meetings as required.

To develop comprehensive knowledge of local resources in order that service users/carers are fully informed as to the choices and options of care and other assistance available to them.

To attend specialist regional groups as required.

To keep up to date with professional developments in the fields of Adult Care and to make appropriate recommendations to the Assistant Team Manager on the development or review of services.

To maintain continual professional development through specialist training or regional network groups.

To undertake short term project work appropriate to the specialist requirements of the post.

To perform statutory duties appropriate to the post.

To undertake supervisory responsibility for Assistant Care Co- coordinators /Team Assistants.

To operate within Directorial stated Principles, Policies and Practice.

To maintain records and write reports in accordance with Directorial Policies and Practice.

To work flexible hours in order to meet the needs of service users and carers.

Experience: Senior Grade

It is essential for the post holder to have considerable post qualification experience, to demonstrate that they have worked at senior level, which should include some experience of supervising staff.

It is essential for the post holder to have some experience of the user group/s to which the post relates.
 
Qualifications or Training: Senior Grade

Willingness to undertake appropriate specialist training as required is essential.

Rehabilitation Worker Certificate, Mobility Officer Certificate and Technical Officer Certificate or Diploma HE in Rehabilitation Studies (Visual Impairment)
