|Reports to:||Service Manager|
|Main Purpose:||To provide and maintain a permanent placement service for children and young people in accordance with statutory requirements and good professional practice
To contribute to the promotion, development and provision of a comprehensive permanent placement service including both permanent fostering and adoption
To adhere to the General Social Care Council (GSCC) Code of practice for social care workers,
|Main Activities:||To undertake and co-ordinate work with networks, communities, and agencies to achieve optimal outcomes for children and young people.
Work with children, young people, parents, families, carers and significant others to facilitate the stability of the family.
Support children and their parents/carers towards ameliorating the negative effects of previous life experiences, some of which have had a detrimental influence on the child’s ability to become or remain an integrated member of the family.
To utilise and contribute to a range of therapeutic skills/tools to address and support the child’s needs.
To support, advise and train carers through assessment, initial placement and long term parenting in relation to the demands that may be presented by children who have significant needs of their own.
Contribute to the protection of children from abuse.
Evaluate the risk of abuse, ability of adults to protect and ensure that all matters regarding the care and management of young people are reported in line with Directorate Policy and procedure.
To provide information, advice and training inputs in relation to attachment and attachment disorders.
Contribute to the development of services, policies and procedures which optimise life chances for children and young people.
Comply with the legal requirements relating to services, standing orders, and financial regulations of the Directorate.
Take responsibility for the continuing professional development of self and others, in particular to keep up to date with current research on attachment and other relevant theory that underpins and evidences good social work practice.
To undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as may from time to time be required.
|Experience:||Experience of working with individual young people or groups of young people including experience of adoption.
Experience of contributing to the development, implementation and review of specific programmes for young people to meet their needs and circumstances
Experience of protecting children from abuse and participating in the evaluation of the risk of abuse to self or others·
Experience of working with children and families where plans for permanency have been formulated and implemented.
Experience of carrying out comprehensive assessments of children and families
An understanding of Legislation, policy and practice in relation to working with children and families and in particular, a knowledge of adoption legislation, regulations and standards.
Knowledge of child development and the needs of children
Comprehensive understanding of Family dynamics and relationships and in particular the impact of attachment disorders on families.
A knowledge and understanding of issues in relation to race and culture within the context of matching children with appropriate carers.
The application of Health and Safety legislation, duties and responsibilities.
|Qualifications or Training:||DipSw or equivalent· Registered with GSCC|
|Practical Skills:||Ability to work as a member of a team and on own initiative
Ability to communicate well through a variety of mediums, including written and verbal. This will involve the ability to produce and present clear and comprehensive assessments within defined deadlines. Participation in training is a requirement of this post in relation to inputs to staff and carers.
Ability to work in partnership with children, parents, carers, professionals and lay people, both within
and outside the agency.
Ability to contribute to care planning for children and provide advice and consultation to others involved in this process.
